 UNDERRATED ARTISTS: VBND

Today the column "underrated" takes us to Canada, to Saskatoon where the artist I will talk about is born: VBND. I must admit that I listened to the first songs of VBND thanks to the recommended searches of YouTube, which highlighted an album that I loved very much: "Daughter of the Sun" of which "Smoke" and "Name on My Tongue" remain my favorites. The 2018 album consists of just eight tracks, all of great artistic depth. I was favorably impressed that such a young artist and producer was immersed in soulful sounds, far from the commercial scene but still fresh and current. VBND's music is designed to appreciate the artistic value of each note and the awareness of wanting to create quality work. I even found the combination of VBND's soft and elegant sounds and Katie Tupper's voice, that stands out for its warm and velvety tonality, perfectly fitting. 2021 sees VBND again at work with a project embellished by the colors of funk; “Scum Funk ''
Album Daughter of the Sun
shows a more driving rhythm than its predecessor, without however undressing the music of the depth and introspection of soul. Listening to Katie's voice again has been a joy, and I can honestly admit that the two artists complement each other perfectly whenever they find themselves creating together. There are not many instrumentalists able to blend different musical genres and successfully present themselves every single time. There are not many producers who, instead of just creating the sounds that sell the most on the international mainstream scene behind a computer, deviate from the crowd by bringing back to life what music should be made of, that is, instrumental and lyrical quality. I think it is right to

Album Scum Funk
give artists like VBND the opportunity to share the same platform that others occupy. Why would a producer like DJ Khaled make millions just for remixing a Santana song, and shouting his name on the track? The mainstream shouldn't just be synonymous with "marketable". But this are just the thoughts of a nostalgic person, tired of always listening to the same beat repeated and dipped in sauces that are not very different from each other. Following this short entry you can find all the links to VBND and his music. If you haven't done it yet, I invite you to listen to what this artist has to offer, promising you won't regret it! Thanks for your attention. Ciao everybody! Martina.
